Computer Security
Security involves protection from data loss, data theft and data corruption.
Choice of operating system becomes irrelevant if recommended security precautions are not applied:
- update the firmware of any router in use
- set B.I.O.S. password(s) for computers in use
- use Logical Volume Management
- use a GNU+Linux operating system that is comprised of the latest version of your chosen Linux kernel series, e.g. Fatdog, Parted Magic, Slacko Puppy or Quirky, verifying with:
- devise an appropriate passphrase to replace the default GNU+Linux operating system passphrase, consisting of at least twelve characters, using the passwd command
- spoof the M.A.C. address
- enable process hiding
- set up the netfilter software firewall iptables and configure it with, for example, ufw {wiki}

- use the latest available network tools: curl, dhcpcd, firefox (with Adblock Edge, HTTPS Everywhere, NoScript & Privacy Badger extensions), iproute2, tor, wget
- use the latest available file-system tools: bzip2, dosfstools, e2fsprogs, grep, gzip, ntfs3g, parted, tar, xz
- use the latest available cryptography tools
- use secure communication methods
- use secure deletion methods
- always have a minimum of two copies of original files; each copy stored on physically separate media
- remove Adobe Flash Player
- never open e-mail attachments from strangers; delete them instead
