Using SFS Applications


SFS files are applications that can be loaded without installing them. Advantages are:
-can be stored outside the save file/folder consuming none of that space
-reduces the size of backups
-easily removed

Loading SFS Applications

Loading an SFS file adds it to the file system for use and is accomplished in one of two ways:

1. Load on reboot, this method works on any type of Puppy install, internal drive or external drive. You mark the SFS for loading and it loads on reboot.

How to Load on reboot:

There are two ways to select an SFS file for loading on reboot:
1. Click the file in ROX-Filer and choose queuing, the SFS will be loaded on reboot
2. If the SFS is located in /mnt/home or in the directory containing the Puppy boot files, it will be shown automatically in the SFS-load GUI.
-click: Menu>Setup>SFS-load
-click the SFS you want loaded (its color will change from light to dark when your mouse moves away). The SFS will be loaded on reboot.

2. Load now (dynamic), the SFS will be available immediately without rebooting. This method will work if:

-you boot without a savefile/folder (pupmode 5)
-you boot in pupmode 12 (direct writes to media)
-you boot in pupmode 13 (default for USB flash installs, optional save to media)
NOTE: any Puppy install can be setup to boot in pupmode 13

How to Load now:

1. Click the SFS file in ROX-Filer and choose load, the SFS will be loaded immediately. If you also choose queuing, the SFS will be loaded on reboot too.

Removing SFS Applications

1. Menu>Setup>SFS-Load
-click the app in the SFS-Load GUI (its color will change from dark to light when your mouse moves away). Next boot it will not be loaded.

2. Locate the SFS file in ROX-Filer and click it
-click: Uninstall SFS, choose unqueue, Next boot it will not be loaded.

-click: Uninstall SFS
